Description/Objective:
The Project is a continuation of Phase I, which was co-financed by the European Union and the “Thalassa” Operational Programme 2014-2020. Phase I involved the renovation and enhancement of the former warehouses located in Latsi, transforming them into a cultural space dedicated to the sea and culture.
The Project focuses on upgrading the Multipurpose Centre through the completion and refurbishment of its interior spaces, incorporating modern technological equipment and rich digital content, so that the venue can meet the needs of an innovative cultural centre dedicated to the sea and culture.
The activities/work carried out under the Project comprised four main components:
a) Carrying out additional works to appropriately configure the spaces in accordance with the interior architectural plans, in order to meet the requirements of a modern Multipurpose Centre;
b) Procurement and installation of new technological equipment, enhancing interactivity and the visitor experience;
c) Creation and integration of digital content, installed on the relevant equipment, ensuring the seamless and high-quality operation of the Multipurpose Centre; and
d) Creation of promotional material and implementation of publicity and communication activities.
The upgrade of the Sea and Culture Multipurpose Centre is expected to significantly enhance the tourism product of Polis Chrysochous and the wider region, while also serving as a modern hub for learning, information, and cultural development. Centered around the sea and fisheries, its theme focuses on the marine area of Polis Chrysochous, Akamas, and the neighboring Municipal Districts. Furthermore, the project aims to showcase marine wealth through innovative digital and electronic equipment, a feature considered groundbreaking for the area.
Expected Benefits/Outcomes:
In addition to serving as a venue for events and cultural activities, the Multipurpose Centre functions as a point of reference for meaningful engagement with both the region’s school-age population and older visitors with an interest in the sea and the fisheries sector.
In particular, an interactive learning space has been created, featuring a model of a traditional fishing boat that visitors can explore, providing them with first-hand information about the profession of fishing and local maritime activities.
Furthermore, through the use of modern audiovisual media, including touchscreen displays and computers, visitors can access interactive electronic games in the form of quizzes focusing on local fisheries and the marine biodiversity of the area.
