Short Description/Objective:
The project concerns the purchase of 3 category B vessels for the needs of the Port and Marine Police aiming at the surveillance and protection of the coastline, the ports and the territorial waters of the Republic of Cyprus. The vessels will be deployed across all naval stations of the Republic of Cyprus, primarily for border surveillance purposes, as well as for search and rescue operations where a rapid and immediate response is required.
The main purpose of the purchase of the 3 class B vessels is to upgrade the existing naval fleet of the Port and Marine Police, contributing to the achievement of the following objectives:
- More effective control and surveillance of maritime borders in cases of increased risk of illegal migration.
- Improve early detection, identification and intervention at the maritime borders.
- Strengthen the operational capabilities of the Port and Marine Police to ensure the successful accomplishment of its duties.
- Conduct operations and patrols more swiftly, while decreasing fuel consumption.
Expected Benefits/Outcomes:
The supply and use of the new Class B vessels will significantly upgrade the fleet of the Port and Marine Police. This will strengthen its operational capabilities and contribute to the effective control of the maritime borders of the Republic of Cyprus.
In particular, early detection, recognition and intervention at maritime borders will be improved, ensuring control and surveillance in cases of increased risk of illegal migration, while enabling faster operations and decreasing fuel consumption.
