Press Conference on the “Tuition Subsidy and Feeding Scheme for Children up to 4 years old”
On 25 October 2022, a joint press conference was held at Aliathon Hotel in Paphos by the Deputy Director-General of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare Mrs. Marina Ioannou Hasapi and the Deputy Director-General of the Directorate General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the EC Mrs. Andriana Sukova, on the “Tuition Subsidy and Feeding Scheme for Children up to 4 years old”.
The Scheme aims to provide all children with the necessary services and equal opportunities from an early age, without discrimination, to ensure their balanced development, while facilitating the integration of parents into the labour market and, therefore, strengthening the institution of the family.
The implementation of the Scheme will have multiple benefits. Indicatively, it supports the wider demographic policy of the State and will contribute to reducing the risk of poverty and social exclusion, especially among children.
The Scheme will facilitate access for all children to quality pre-primary education programmes and ensure adequate standards of pre-primary care and education in order to increase the percentage of children attending quality day-care and education facilities.
The implementation of the Scheme reinforces the effort to increase the options for free or low-cost early childhood education and care, which disproportionately burden the family budget, especially for low- and middle-income families.
The Scheme, with a total budget of €27 million, is implemented under the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA2021-2027”, co-funded by the EU.
