On Tuesday, 23 April 2024, the President of the Republic of Cyprus inaugurated the co-funded project titled “Business Innovation Centre – Creative Business District – Restoration and Expansion of the Old Municipal Market”, in the presence of State officials, EU representatives, political parties, Mayors, Ambassadors, officials from academic institutions and representatives of Centres of Excellence. The inauguration ceremony was organised by Nicosia Municipality.
The project, with a total budget of €7.2 million, implemented under the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA2021-2027”, co-funded by the EU, is now the permanent home of the CYENS Centre of Excellence, which focuses on interactive media, intelligent systems and emerging technologies. The project offers multiple benefits, including the strengthening and support of networks to promote business innovation and the creative industry.
At the inauguration ceremony, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nikos Christodoulides, the Director-General of the European Commission’s Regional and Urban Policy Mrs. Themis Christofidou, the Mayor of Nicosia and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CYENS Mr. Constantinos Yiorkadjis and the Director-General of CYENS Mr. George Chrysanthou, highlighted the importance of the project and the significance of the research conducted in its facilities.
