Development of a New Integrated Information System (Alia.) for Fisheries Control

Policy Objective 2
A Greener and more Resilient Europe
Programme Priority
Fostering sustainable fisheries and the restoration and conservation of aquatic biological resources
Specific Objective
Fostering efficient fisheries control and enforcement, including fighting against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as reliable data for knowledge-based decision-making

EU Fund
EMFAF
Project Budget
€4.53M
Short Description/Objective:
The project, which is considered of strategic importance, aims to modernize and upgrade electronic devices and systems, as well as to digitize a larger volume of information related to local fisheries. This enhances the capacity for more effective controls, while facilitating the direct and smooth communication of data from the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR) to the EU.
The implementation of the project will be carried out through the integration of:
1. the central fishery data exchange system with EU services (Transportation layer),
2. the Electronic Reporting System (ERS),
3. the IT systems of DFMR with each other, where appropriate.
In addition, a Data Validation System (DVS) will be developed, while the existing IT centre will be upgraded to host all DFMR systems and replicated at a second backup centre in the event of a disaster.
Expected Benefits/Outcomes:
Upon completion of the Project, the efficiency of the DFMR will be significantly increased, and working hours will be saved.
At the same time, the functionality of the DFMR’s Control Division will be enhanced, reducing the time required to process clerical and administrative tasks. Furthermore, by promoting the work of the Control Division, it is expected to raise public awareness and encourage active participation.
